Mayor's Corner 09/19/2019
As usual, there are a couple dozen things that I would like to comment on. But I’ve only got enough room to share the major cause I’m laying awake lately!
Last week I attended an important conference. It tested my ability to hold still and absorb ideas from others. I was reminded that elected officials set the tone for their cities and their constituents. In that spirit, I want you to know how excited and optimistic I am about our future.
Much if my excitement relates to the Community Development Center (referred to by the county as the recreation center). It’s demanding a lot of my thoughts, my time and my energy.
I am confident of two things. First, it’s impossible to change someone’s mind on something if he or she is unwilling to listen; and second, if we vote “yes” on the center in the upcoming election, we will be saying that we did the right thing within a very short period of time.
How can I be so sure? I’ve been studying what other communities have done in this regard for nearly six years. I’m convinced this is the right thing to do, the right time to do it, the right partners, and the right place. It will be a year-round blessing to the whole region!
Nothing worthwhile is easy. This project has some moving parts and details to resolve. But the prize is worth the price, and future generations will thank us for our foresight. We simply can’t miss this opportunity! Please watch for ballots in the mail in mid-October and share your enthusiasm with friends and neighbors.
