For nearly three and a half years, The Richfield Reaper has afforded me the privilege of visiting with you each week as Mayor of Richfield. We’ve talked about everything from neighborhood cleanups to economic development to chickens! We’ve even mentioned She Who Shall Not Be Named a time or two. I appreciate the Reaper’s kindness, and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my musings even half as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them.
Last week I filed for reelection for another term as Mayor. Former City Councilmember Mike Turner has also decided to run for Mayor. It would not be fair for me to continue with this weekly newspaper column during the upcoming campaign, so this will my last until after the election.
Mike is a worthy opponent and I expect a close race. I will still share my mayoral thoughts with you each week on Facebook and at www.richfieldcity.com.
I’ll now join the other candidates in wondering if those hands we shake and those smiles we return are expecting that we would not be doing so if we were not running for office! That’s not a good feeling to have, and I’m sure all of us will somewhat share in that angst.
Rest assured that all have an interest in the welfare of our city and all will listen to your concerns and ideas. None of us expect a yellow brick road.
Mayor David Ogden
