 Richfield City ZAP Tax Renewal

What is the ZAP Tax and Why Vote to renew the ZAP Tax?
zap2
  • ZAP Tax is officially the “Botanical, Cultural, and Recreational and Zoological Sales & Use Tax.”
  • Revenue generated by the ZAP Tax is restricted by law to be used only for cultural, parks and recreation needs. It cannot be used for other City or community projects or expenses.
  • ZAP Tax spreads the cost of providing parks & recreation facilities, equipment, maintenance, and programs via sales tax, not just to Richfield City property tax payers, but to ALL users of these facilities and programs.
  • Without ZAP Tax, Richfield City may need to raise property taxes to fund these programs, or eliminate certain parks and recreation facilities and services. Neither of these options are good for the community.
  • ZAP Tax is not a new tax. It has been in place for 8 years, and generates approximately $230,000 per year in revenue for parks and recreation facilities and programs in Richfield City. Maintenance equipment is also kept up-to-date from this tax.
