Chautaugua in Richfield
July 31 to August 4, 1923
Chautauga was the first adult education program in the U.S. It was very popular in rural communities throughout the country. They would arrive in town for a scheduled visit, pitch a tent and spent several days presenting entertainment in the form of lectures, concerts, and plays that were modeled after activities at the Chautauqua Institution of western New York.
Alta Johnson Howard was a young mother at that time and looked forward to recieving a little "culture' at Chautaugua... This program copy is one that she saved and was shared by her granddaughter,.
Chautaugua flourished in the U.S. in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
